Dr. Pamela V. Eatman-Skinner, Ed.D., serves as the Director of CUNY Start, Math Start, and English Start at Bronx Community College, part of the City University of New York. A lifelong learner, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Music from Hunter College, a Master’s in Education with a focus on Education and Humanities from Brooklyn College, and a Doctorate in Education from St. John’s University in Administrative and Instructional Leadership.
With over 30 years of experience in education, Dr. Eatman-Skinner has excelled in roles ranging from secondary educator and adjunct instructor to student advocate, administrator, and educational leader. As a proud member of the Kappa Eta Chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society of Education, she is recognized for her exceptional skills in innovative program and curriculum design and development. Pamela is dedicated to uplifting, inspiring, and motivating others to learn and grow in unique and impactful ways. She enjoys collaborating with educational colleagues and students, cherishing the opportunity to foster connections and open new doors of understanding and opportunity for them.
Dr. Eatman-Skinner enjoys the life of the mind and has manifested one component of her educational philosophy through her dissertation, entitled “Hidden in Plain Sight: A Descriptive Case Study Analysis of Post-Traditional Remedial Learners and their Determinants of Student Success.” This work highlights the striking absence of post-traditional learners from substantive discussions that foreground their lived experiences, relevance, and success in post-secondary education. Though physically present on campus and numerically significant within the academy, they are not recognized as an influential and consequential student demographic. The juxtaposition of their presence, specifically within the community college setting, and absence in the literature calls attention to one of higher education’s most perplexing omissions.
Pamela is also committed to enhancing the lives of others through her Motivated Mindset series, Spiritual Development Workshops, and Inspirational talks. Dedicated to empowering individuals to transform their mindset, deepen their faith journey, and discover their true purpose, Pamela strives to inspire and uplift, using her own experiences and insights to connect with her audiences on a profound level. Her approach, which is faith-based and deeply rooted in empathy and understanding, guides people to overcome their challenges while embracing their deepest potential. Whether through workshops, seminars, or one-on-one sessions, Dr. Eatman-Skinner is committed to helping others unlock their inner strength and achieve their goals.
In her artistic life, Pamela is the Founder and Executive Director of Tiny Starr Productions, NYC, Inc., where she connects with audiences through the performing arts. As the author of several plays with original music, she has staged her productions throughout New York City, including but not limited to the renowned Symphony Space, Aaron Davis Hall, Helen Mills Theatre, the Ailey City Group Theatre, and The Kaye Playhouse. Pamela also serves as the musical co-director of the Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, which has appeared at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall and at historic venues across the globe. She also serves as the Minister of Music and Worship at The Mt. Pleasant Community Church. Deeply committed to her faith, Pamela feels privileged to share and serve in every capacity possible.
In her quiet time, she embraces her life to the fullest, cherishing the gift of family and friends and enjoying art, travel and music.
